Wizards of the Coast announced that Imerid mana controls Commad to increase deckalild options!
Yesterday, Wizards of the Coast revealed a series of changes coming to the Commander format. The Commander Bracket System received an incredibly welcome update, and ten cards were removed as Game Changers. As if that wasn't enough, it was revealed that two remaining Game Changers will be banned in the future.
Unfortunately, these two changes seem relatively minor compared to what is being discussed.During this week's Livestream, it was revealed that Wizards is considering changing the rules around hybrid cards. If these changes are implemented, they can make almost 500 MTG COCK plays a lot.
Changes to the potential commander rules
As Gavin Verhey explained during WeeklyMTG, when Wizards of the Coast designed mana combos, it was an either-or effect. For example, on cards like Rhys the Redeemed, you can pay a white or green mana to play it.This is how the mechanic works in constructed formats, just as Wizards intended.
And in Commander, hybrid mana cards have always been treated as the same.Instead of being white or green, Rhys the Redeemed is a Selesnya card.Of course, this isn't the biggest deal for Rhys, since Elf-type decks are still Selesnia. For other cards like Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner, however, the hybrid mana cost really makes up for it.Limits what can be played.
Now that Wizards Commander is in control, there's been a lot of talk about changing the way the format views hybrid mana cards.Although nothing has changed yet, Wizards is considering changing it from "and" to "or" like other formats. If that happens, hybrid mana cards like Corea can be played in any mono green or mono blue deck.
During the stay, Vehey made it clear that the proposed change is currently a proposal. As appointed general manager, Wizards wants a report on MTG's MTG's MTG's.Technically, this means that this change is still up in the air, but it seems possible.
Not only was the initial reaction to the proposed change pretty positive, but Wizards' logic just makes sense.Even if you ignore the fact that Commander is basically the only format that does things differently, this change only increases the deck building options. It should be noted that hybrid mana commanders like Rhys the Redeemed can still be a Salazania, so it's really the opposite.
The legal legal rules
The only change is how bosses view hybrid mana.During the week, Verhey noted that in the battle zoneHybrid mana cards still come in both colors. This means something like Hydro Blast can attack red-on-red hybrid mana cards.
Additionally, cards like Deatrite Shaman will not change their color collection when this change occurs.Since Deatrene has both Black and Green Mana Pips in its RuleBook, it will always be a Golgari Card.In theory, this could cause some confusion; However, the instances where this happens are not at all common.
Notably, as Varhe explained, this change does not affect Phyrexian mana cards. While these cards, like Getaxian Probe, are generally playable regardless of Phyrexian mana color, Wizards are currently pairing them with color markers.Similarly, Wizards are not currently touching double-faced cards like Archangel Avacyn // Avacyn, Purifier, but Verhey called this "interesting."
In the case of these changes, this expands the available options, especially for monochromatic conditions. If this change is made, some cards, such as discrimination, will even be colorless, allowing them to be called anywhere.Given the hops monochromatic quinchromatic will jump, this decision may seem to be unreasonable. However, MTG players have responded well to the required change.not yet
It's nice, but not necessary
There are as many complaints as there are joys in cuts.Livestream chat on Twitch is the same story, with back-and-forth and complaints. In that case, it would not be an exaggeration to say that this recommendation is polarizing.
Although it does not have a large negative effect on the proposed variation of the hybrid hat, it goes against the classics of the past.Commander has used the Manana hybrid as an "and" effect for two decades. It has now become the foundation of the format and pillars of the color identity law.
Because of this, it is felt that, if it was up to the players, this decision could go either way.Even though the reddit thread and the comment thread have been badmouthing the entire MTG Player site, it's clear that the story is controversial. In theory, this would mean that the wizards decided to play it safe; However, they are above their form.
Recently, Wizards of the Coast has created a lot of hybrid mana cards and Manda cards. These cards are excellent, allowing for some interesting and useful designs. On top of this, it sets up as a LORWYLD DEELLINE sale that has a strong mana content, making the switch even more important.
Thanks to this upcoming program, it is possible that we will be able to confirm that this change will happen before the release of the collection. However, whether this happens or not is still up for debate.During the simulations, the developers mentioned the first quarter of 2026 and February as response dates for action. In the end, we just have to wait and see what happens.
