Google Photos will soon allow users to schedule backups, offering time options such as daily or weekly.

Google Photos has launched several new AI-powered features, including natural language editing, a revamped video editor, and powerful automatic video creation tools, cementing its position as one of the best photo and video editing and backup services of all time.

Despite offering a wide range of features, Google Photos does not have a built-in option that allows users to choose exactly when to upload their photos and videos. As it turns out, the tech is testing a new option called "Backup Schedule" that allows users to choose a specific time or choose a specific time such as daily, weekly or monthly.

According to a report from Android Authority, the option found during APK teardown is Google Photos v7.58.0.853810532.As you can see in the image above, the Backup section of the Google Photos settings screen also receives Material 3's expressive treatment.

Google also seems to reset the options, including the backup process, backup quality and backup tools folder, their own containers and sorting them under new categories like "Backup Tools", "What to do Backup" and "How to make a backup".Unfortunately, the option doesn't seem to be working right now, and it's not clear yet if and when the new functionality will make its way to the stable version of Google Photos.

The report goes on to say that the functionality could be similar to Android's automatic backup feature, which automatically backs up your data, such as apps and app data, call history, contacts, and more, to your Google-linked account.

Over the past few months, the Google Photos app has added many intuitive features, such as Help Me Edit, Gemini's new AI-powered functionality that eliminates the need to select tools and adjust sliders, a redesigned Material 3 UI, the ability to undo backups on Android, and more.
