Updated depth chart
Defensively, I took the approach of listing 5 linebacker, 5 linebacker, and 5 defensive back positions to allow you to configure a 3, 4, and 5-man offense in your head. There's a bit of guesswork here, and some players (I think Daron Payne) will be lining up in multiple positions, so I tried to make the defensive side of the ball make as much sense as possible while Daronte Jones transitions to an unclear scheme under his leadership.
The Commanders currently have 36 defensive players, 26 players and 3 special teams players.
Please note the reserved positions; They don't necessarily represent the thinking of Washington coaches or the front office, and they don't necessarily align with fan consensus. This chart represents my personal interpretation and may not reflect the opinions of other Hogs Haven writers. Finally, when it comes to reserve players, I don't put much effort into making sure they are right or left or behind the specific player they are supporting.I usually try to put everyone on the table effectively.
As we said above, the defensive setup is a bit schizophrenic this season. We should have more information during training camp and the offseason.
Free agency is by no means over. The Chiefs still need to add a couple dozen players to their offseason draft picks, and they currently only have 6 picks in April's draft.
That means Adam Peters is still looking to add another 18-20 veteran and college free agents in the coming weeks.
At 65 players, the Commanders are short of the number of players that will make up the 53-player and 17-pro roster in 2025.There are still sore spots on the roster that need to be patched before the draft.
The team needs to add more "impact" players in free agency - many fans are focused on WR, RB and CB - but the second wave of free agency offers an opportunity to bring in some lesser known or less expensive players before the draft.Maxx Crosby's situation could be a bit confusing as teams try to figure out how the dynamic of free agency changes with the multiple ripple effects of the Ravens' turnaround.
