Tennessee baseball utility man Chris Newstrom is out for this weekend's three-game series against Mississippi State.

Tennessee baseball utility Chris Newstrom will not be with the Vols this weekend as they travel to Starkville to face Mississippi State due to an "internal issue," a UT spokesperson told RTI on Thursday evening.The issue is not expected to lead to a long absence for the sophomore.

Newstrom entered his second season with high expectations, but has failed to make a consistent impact at this point in the season.He has played in 23 games and started 15, but is hitting just .180 with one home run, three extra bases and six total RBIs.

The Scottsdale, Ariz. native can play both outfield and outfield, but has been out of the rotation since March 31. had no shutout against Austin Peay.Newstrom's last SEC shutout came on March 22 against Missouri.He has only started two SEC games.

last season as a freshman, Newstrom started 13 games, appeared in 33 games and hit .351 with four home runs and nine total extra-base hits.
