Tough defense, bold decisions and some special rebounds helped NC State beat Florida State 21-11 under the night lights Friday night at Carter-Finley Stadium.
On Military Appreciation Night, the first salute goes to a Wolfpack defense that held the Seminoles to 25 points below their scoring average.
"We felt like we didn't play a complete game defensively, and I feel like that was the case tonight," Kaden Fordham said. The senior linebacker posted 15 tackles against the program his father played for.
Florida State's first drive was indicative of what was to come defensively
The Noles attempted a deep offensive play on first and sixth down, but both passes were broken up by senior cornerback Devon Marshall. He ended the drive with an interception in the red zone.
Marshall continued his stellar play throughout the game, recording six breakaways and two breakups, it was a match that resulted from his weekly practice.
"We decided to try to get him as unrestricted as [Robinson] as we can," said head coach Dave.
"That's the guy, so I know they have to stop giving the ball away," Marshall added.
The second is Salam, bold and aggressive, facing aggressive periods.
At the beginning of the third quarter, the lock hit 4 and 1. But Caden afternoon flawlessly and Qaterback Wilson shot in the middle first.
It was part of a 15-yard, 79-yard drive that Wilson carried seven times for 27 touchdowns. He made it a one-yard score, 14-3, 14-3, on the third down.
With a three-point lead in the fourth quarter, the Pack's staff played poker, initially sending a 29-yard field goal drive.Trying to draw noles is a staff, so think about what Dave Doeren called a time out and did with the 4 and 6.
“Frightened money can't make money,” Duren said after the game.“When you go into a game like this, you have to be aggressive.”
The offense took control of the field with C.J.Bailey high up in the top left corner of the finish with an eye to nail Justin Joly. The high school basketball star caught the ball like a rebound. Keeping the ball away from the defender. The result?the touchWolfpack leads 21-11.
That fourth-quarter touchdown came after Florida State's 16-yard scoring drive. The second end is the fall in the seminar in the quarter and the first one goes in disbelief.
Caden Noonkester threw a wobbly punt that traveled only 25 yards, but before the ball could leave or touch the turf, it bounced off a Seminole player's helmet and began heading toward the original line of scrimmage.
Looking like he had been working on recovery after every practice, Noonkester formed a perfect "C" around the ball for the first recovery of his life.
"No, I can't talk, I do this every time" I say it's very real. I grew up a football player, so it's like I remember me in the search."
Sometimes you just need some rebounds to keep going. The Pack had that and more, winning their fourth straight over Florida State and securing their fifth bowl trip.
