On Saturday, August 7, area lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender persons, along with their supportive family and friends, will gather at Mayo Beach from noon to 6 pm for Chesapeake Pride Festival 2010. Residents of Annapolis, Baltimore, Washington, DC, and the surrounding communities will don their swimsuits and pack up their beach toys for a day of family-friendly fun, entertainment, and general celebration.

Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) of the Chesapeake is one of the major sponsors of the Chesapeake Pride Festival. Gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender organizations (including the GLCCB and Gay Life), individuals, and allies, help plan and execute the annual Chesapeake Pride Festival (CPF). Some of the highlights for this year’s festival include:

BLESSING OF RELATIONSHIPS: Rev. Wayne Schwandt of MCC of the Chesapeake will be performing a ‘Blessing of Relationships’ at the festival. For more information contact Rev. Schwandt at info@mccchesapeake.org.

CHILDREN’S AREA: Mayo Beach Park has a playground and CPF encourages families to bring the kids.

CLASSIC CAR SHOW: The Straight Eights-Lambda Car Club returns to CPF again this year to show off more than 40 classic chassis—and some nice old autos, too!

MUSIC AND DRAG SHOW: Miss Chesapeake Pride Festival Stormy Vain has recruited some of the most talented Drag Queens in the area, plus DJ Dan Rizzo will lay down hot dance tracks.

Mayo Beach Park sits at the mouth of the South River and the Chesapeake Bay. The park provides restrooms, a beach, a pavilion, small grills, a play area, and a ball field. There is handicapped parking, toilet, and ramp to beach area. Swimming is allowed in certain sections of the waterfront. Ample parking is available. No coolers or pets are permitted.

The mission of Chesapeake Pride Festival is to foster an understanding and tolerance of the LGBT community in the general population by raising awareness through education and an annual Festival to ultimately achieve unity and harmony. CPF celebrates diversity, civil liberties and rights for all.
